As in it wasn't. Steph was unceremoniously dumped off screen and immediately Tim Drake is dating Bernard who hasn't been in the comics since 2005.

I would have totally accepted Benard returning to the cast, but not at the expense of Tim/Steph.

I had a scenario alternative for the entire writing in that instead of meeting Bernard, Tim is undercover at that cafe looking for the badguy abductors and he just happens to run into Bernard who is being accosted by an older woman who wants to get into his pants or something. (They'd never do that because toxic women don't exist, right?)

OR an abusive boyfriend Bernard now has after HE realized he was bisexual. He asks Tim for a solid to get away from Dick boyfriend and they reminise a bit though Tim is On edge because of his mission.

And Benard basically mentions he figured out Tim's secret, they get assaulted and Bernard shows off he's been taking martial arts because he was inspired by Tim.

But instead of becoming a boyfriend to Tim, he joins the bat family.

I really dislike when relationships are not built up in any form whatsoever. Fizgerald has only one thing on her mind and it's to set up the Tim Kon relationship which is popular in fanfics.

When you literally admit to the audience you didn't have a plan.
